‘Middenloop Zwalm’ nature reserve

The river Zwalm winds its way through its valley between the hills of the Flemish Ardennes. ‘Middenloop Zwalm’ nature reserve was created on 140 hectares of woodland and grassland. The nature reserve consists of different parts (Vossenhol, Jansveld, Bruul, Boterhoek, Jan de Lichte, Steenbergse bossen). The old train line ‘Mijnwerkerspad’ (The miners’ path) passes through the nature reserve. Until 1963 it was the old train track to the Hainaut coal mines. Nowadays it is an attractive cycling and walking path.
